Animals and Reiki
Because of it's gentle and noninvasive nature, Reiki is ideal for use with animals. Animals seem to sense immediately that something special is being given to them and are drawn to the power and energy of Reiki. They often become very calm and relaxed, sometimes falling into a deep and peaceful sleep during treatments. Animals will often push into the Reiki practitioner's hands, clearly indicating the area they would like attention to. The Reiki practitioner respects each animals needs and responds intuitively. Reiki will not cause stress, discomfort, or pain, and yet yields powerful results with it's ability to support the healing of emotional, behavioral, and physical illnesses and injuries.

What Is Reiki?
"Reiki" (ray - key) is a Japanese word meaning "universal life energy". This energy surrounds us and is found in all things. We know there is energy all around us, even though it cannot be seen, we have all felt it and experienced it in our lives. The Usui System of Reiki Healing, or Usui Shiki Ryoho, applies this energy through gentle touch for the purpose of healing and well-being.
How Reiki Can Help
The Usui System of Reiki can be a powerful tool for healing and growth and supports the whole person — physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

Reiki Energy Healing

Reiki has specifically been documented to relax muscles, calm the mind, and ease pain and suffering. Many health professionals are effectively incorporating the use of Reiki into their individual practices and there are several clinical trials ongoing in this area. In some hospitals in Great Britain and Europe, Reiki is offered to patients under going treatments for Cancer. It has also been used to assist women during childbirth.
One of the benefits of Reiki is that it can be administered very simply in all kinds of settings: homes, clinics, hospitals, veterinary offices, stables, animal shelters... or any place where people or animals experience stressed muscles, accidents, exhaustion, or trauma. No special tools or equipment are needed.
Reiki has a great impact on mental and emotional health; anxiety is reduced and a sense of well-being and relaxation is increased. At this degree of deep relaxation, a rebalancing of energies can occur and the natural healing ability of the body is enhanced. On a spiritual level, people have stated they feel revitalized, balanced, hamonious and a greater connection to the earth.
The Usui System of Reiki is named after its founder, Dr. Mikao Usui. Through oral history, we know that Dr. Usui was an educator in Kyoto in the late 1800's. He began an investigation into the healing phenomena of history's greatest spiritual teachers. Through his travel, study, research, and meditation, he developed the healing practice of Reiki and spent the rest of his life applying and teaching this method.
Mikao Usui's work continued in pre-war Tokyo at a clinic run by Chujiro Hayashi. A patient, Mrs. Hawayo Takata of Hawaii, recovered from her serious ailments at Hayashi's Reiki clinic, and became his first known western student. Mrs. Takata played an integral role in the spread of Reiki. She practiced and taught Reiki throughout the Canada and the United States from 1937 to her death in 1980.
The Usui System of Reiki Healing has spread through an oral tradition of teaching, sharing information, and exchanging treatments. Reiki is not something that can be learned by reading a book, but it rather something to experience by receiving a treatment, taking a class, and talking with Reiki practitioners, students, and masters.

Reiki Treatments
Reiki treatments are given to the person fully clothed. They can be performed while the client is lying on a massage table, sitting in a chair, or elsewhere. The Reiki practitioner gently places his/her hands on the head, the abdomen, the back, and any particular areas of pain or discomfort. At times the Reiki practitioner's hands will hover slightly above the area being treated. This method is often preferable in treating children and animals, who are much more sensitive to the energy. Treatments usually last between 30 and 90 minutes. Children generally benefit from a shorter treatment time, whereas adults usually are treated for between 45 and 90 minutes, depending on the needs of the individual

Both healthy and ill animals can benefit from regular Reiki treatments. For healthy animals, Reiki helps to aid in relaxation, promoting emotional security and a sense of peace and contentment. When animals are ill or recovering from surgery, Reiki is a wonderful healing tool. It will never do any harm and will work safely as a complement to conventional medicine, Chinese Medicine, homeopathy, flower essences, and any other form of healing.
For animals who are dying, Reiki is a powerful yet gentle way to provide comfort, relief from pain, fear and anxiety, and to ease the transition in their passing. Back to Top
Reiki Classes
There are three levels of Reiki - Level One, Level Two and Level 3/Reiki Master. The Usui System of Reiki is taught by Reiki Masters who are trained in the original traditions of Reiki as passed down to them through their spiritual lineage.
Level One Reiki is also referred to as First Degree Reiki. Each student will learn the history of Reiki, the basic hand positions, self-treatment and the treatment of others. They will also receive their attunement to the energy from their Reiki Master.
Second Degree Reiki is offered to students who have been attuned to the First Degree and who have had several months to one or more years of committed practice. The Second Degree attunements and training strengthen the flow of energy. Back to Top

About Debra
Debra's journey to healing energy started many years ago when she was very involved with horses. In 1979, she completed training in T-Touch (Tellington Therapeutic Touch) and started to see amazing results in the horses that she worked with. Many years later, she discovered Reiki. She was intrigued and excited to start upon this special journey to further experience Universal Life Energy. After spending quite some time reading and researching, a connection was made with a wonderful Reiki Master and training commenced. In 2002, Debra was initiated in the First Degree of the Usui System of Reiki Healing. A year later, ready to further her training, she was initiated into the Second Degree of Reiki and in 2006 completed her Third Degree Reiki and was attuned as a Reiki Master. In 2007, Debra added Canine Massage Therapy to her range of healing modalities. Today, as a Registered Reiki Master/Teacher, Reiki Practitioner and Certified Canine Massage Therapist, Debra's practice encompasses working with animals, adults and children. The journey continues...

When a Reiki practitioner place their hands on an area of their own or a client's clothed body, Reiki flows through the practitioner into the client. Some people feel this energy exchange as heat, others feel cold, some feel tingling or some form of vibration, others see colours or visions. Everyone's experience with Reiki is unique. Sometimes there is no sensation at all, however the Reiki energy still flows.
